Restaurant Review Edelweiss Restaurant Staunton, VA

If you like good German food and great service this is it! At least, I think it is. Probably. I'm embarrassed to admit that this visit was my first to a German restaurant. Even though it was the first, it certainly won't be the last.

In November 2009, I dined at the Edelweiss German Restaurant in Staunton, VA with 3 teenage girls. None of them had ever been to a German restaurant either. We were on a trip to remember and up for adventure. Everyone was ready except for one girl. For her, I promised that if she didn't like the food and left hungry, we would go through the nearby McDonald's drive-thru. It turned out to be a promise that we didn't have to fulfill.

The extensive menu almost entirely German food.  There were a few concessions to folks who might be too timid to try it. Deciding what to order was tough. It was a good thing that our server was patient. We had many questions for her.

In the end, one teen and I decided to share the combination plate offered by the Edelweiss German Restaurant at $20.95. The menu says that the server knows what's on it. I remember it had goulash, sauerbraten and 3 other meats. The sides of sauerkraut, red cabbage and potatoes were all served family style. Complimenting the meal was some of the most delicious homemade rolls that I've had in a long time.

In all, the meal for the two of us came to just under $30 plus tip. I[ve paid more for power lunches at many American style restaurants without the excellent service and with less food. Serving sizes were ample. No one left hungry. Had we not been on the road we would eagerly have taken to-go boxes home.

Next time I'm traveling through Staunton, Virginia I'll see you at the Edelweiss German Restaurant!

Interesting post. I have passed that Greenville exit many times but never tried the restaurant.
